AT40: Olivia Rodrigo (4) Week Of August 21, 2021
As far as the countdown goes, I thought that it looks super interesting. But we did get rid of a song that was going to be in my Top 5 Songs of the year, and of course it will forever be missed. But we do have more interesting debuts this week. I'll get to all of those later on, but for now, let's get to it! #1 Song This Week One Year Ago:
Harry Styles - Watermelon Sugar (2 of 8 weeks at #1)
This Week's Mover and Shaker:
I'm so glad that Pop Smoke/Dua Lipa - Demeanor (+7) has been gaining lots of airplay on the pop radio charts and I'm pleased to see it take the biggest jump this week. What a week for them!
Justin Bieber/Daniel Caesar/Giveon - Peaches (-7) has dropped out of the Top 10. Though I was actually expecting this song to have that, and now down it goes. And I'm sure this is now on it's way out of here.
New Song/s on the AT40 this week are:
Normani Kordei/Cardi B. - Wild Side: It's actually been a couple years since we last heard from her. The last time we heard from her was Motivation back in 2019, and that was a song that I've enjoyed back then. And now, she is finally back. As far as the song goes, it's definitely an amazing song. But definitely not as good as Motivation, but it's still amazing. With my opinion, the production was so amazing, Normani's vocals were super amazing, those lyrics were very nicely-written, and the chorus was so phenomenal. But there was only one thing that's bad about this song, which of course it's Cardi B.'s verse. She sounds so bad in it. But this is actually an amazing song overall. Hopefully it'll do amazing on there.
Silk Sonic - Skate: They replaced themselves this week on there. As far as this new song goes, it's also an amazing song and this is actually a step up from Leave The Door Open. With my opinion on this one, the retro disco production was so amazing, Bruno's vocals were super amazing, Anderson .Paak's vocals were also super amazing in his verse, the lyrics were super nicely-written, and the chorus was super fun. Hopefully this should do amazing on there.
Olivia Rodrigo - Traitor: The best debut this week. Since Deja Vu and Good 4 U were both doing so amazing on there and Driver's License is almost out of here, this song has now made it's debut on there. And now she has 4 songs on there, which was crazy. As far as the song goes, it's definitely a phenomenal song. But definitely not as good as Good 4 U, but it's still amazing. With my opinion, the production was super amazing, Olivia's vocals were so phenomenal, the lyrics were so phenomenal, and the chorus was super phenomenal. I'm sure this is going to become a hit on there. Hopefully this should do phenomenal on there.
Bazzi - I Like That: It's also been quite a while since we last heard from him. The last time we heard from him was Paradise back in 2019, and I've actually been enjoying this song back then. And now, he has made his return on there. As far as this new song goes, this is definitely an amazing song and it's actually a step up from Paradise. As for my opinion, the production was super outstanding, Bazzi's vocals were so amazing, those lyrics were so nicely-written, and that chorus was super amazing. Hopefully it'll do well on there.
Lil Nas X/Jack Harlow - Industry Baby: Since Montero (Call Me By Your Name) was doing amazing on there, we now have this song debuting on here. As far as the song goes, it's actually another decent song. Although it is actually a step up from Montero (Call Me By Your Name), but it's still decent. For my opinion, the production with all those horns was actually amazing, but again Lil Nas X's vocals do not sound good here. He really isn't a good singer to me. But Jack's vocals were amazing in his contribution. And the lyrics were still very nicely-written and the chorus was fine. But yeah, this is a decent song overall. Let's see how far this one should get.
My Opinions/My Thoughts On The Top 5:
5. Lil Nas X - Montero (Call Me By Your Name): Well, it's out of the Top 3. And now this song is officially on it's way out of here. And I'm sure this is going to leave the Top 5 next week.
4. Ed Sheeran - Bad Habits: I'm pleased to see it move up. And I'm sure this is going to be in the Top 3 next week. Hopefully I'm right.
3. Doja Cat/SZA - Kiss Me More: I actually didn't expect this song to be back in the Top 3, but I'm so pleased that it's back in there. But I'm pretty sure this is going to be back out of here next week.
2. Olivia Rodrigo - Deja Vu: I actually thought that this song was going to be at the top spot. But I'm sure next week it should be in there.
1. Olivia Rodrigo - Good 4 U: Holding the top spot for the 4th week in a row. I'm so pleased that it's still in there, although I actually thought she was going to replace herself in the top spot this week. But once again I'm sure she's going to replace herself in there next week. But let's see if it'll stay in there or not.
