Year-End Special: Sabrina Carpenter - Year Of 2024
So Hits 1 counted down their Top 30 Songs of the year. It sure has been quite a phenomenal year for music on there overall. And of course like every radio station at the end of every year, they count down their Top 30 songs of the year based off of airplay. So now, I'm gonna go through their year-end list and I'm going to show my opinions and thoughts on every song on this list as always. Now, every week since there's 30 songs instead of 45, I usually do a Top 30 Review at the end of every post (except when it's the AT40). And for this Year-End list, I'm going to do it again to make sure what grade Hits 1 had with music throughout the year with one of the following areas:
Crap (0 Points)
Bad (1 Point)
Mediocre (2 Points)
Decent (3 Points)
Good (4 Points)
Great (5 Points)
And again it's very similar to a Top 20 Review which I've done back when there's 45 songs on there, but it's with 30 songs to see how Hits 1 did with music throughout the year. The total score will come out of 150, which I'm going to convert so that the score will be out of 100. They will also be coordinated with a different color for each rank. There will be some minor changes that way every rank should be in a different color. So here's the color-coding code for this list:
Red = Crap
Turquoise = Bad
Yellow = Mediocre
Pink = Decent
Blue = Good
Green = Great
Purple and orange will also be on this rank for the best song and worst song on this list, and dark blue and dark red will also be on this rank for my Top 5 and Bottom 5 picks. Now, let's get to this year-end list. Remember, the parenthetical number for each song means that this song has reached it's peak. Not every song that peaked in the Top 5 or Top 10 are on this list, but a lot of them are on there. Now, we're ready to get to this year-end list. But before we get to the year-end list, here are last year's Top 5 songs.
5. Taylor Swift - Anti-Hero
4. Ed Sheeran - Eyes Closed
3. SZA - Kill Bill
2. Fall Out Boy - Love From The Other Side
1. Miley Cyrus - Flowers
Now, here are the Top 30 Songs of 2024 according to Hits 1.
#30. Gracie Abrams - Close To You (#2) [5; Great]
I was actually hoping that she would end up on this year-end list this year, and now here she is making her first ever appearance on there which was actually so exciting for me. As far as the song goes, it's definitely a phenomenal song. And apparently she wrote part of this song 7 years ago and she has finished it this year which was actually pretty interesting. With my opinion on this one, the production was so phenomenal, Gracie's vocals were super phenomenal, the lyrics were so miraculous, and the chorus was so heavenly. I'm pleased to see this song on this list. It totally deserves it!
#29. Charli XCX - Apple (#11) [5; Great]
I know her album Brat has been doing super well this year and I actually expected one of the songs to end up on this list. As far as the song goes, it's definitely a heavenly song and it's actually a step up from Guess and Sympathy Is A Knife, but not as good as 360 but it's still heavenly. With my opinion on this song, the production was super phenomenal, Charli's vocals were so heavenly, the lyrics were definitely what I'm a huge fan of, and the chorus was super heavenly. But yeah, this is such a heavenly song overall and this really deserves to end up in there!
#28. Myles Smith - Stargazing (#4) [5; Great]
Here's a fun fact about this song. It actually debuted on the Hot 100 on the same week that it debuted on Hit Bound, which I think is super interesting. And now, he has made his first ever appearance on this year-end list. As far as the song goes, it's definitely a phenomenal song. With my opinion on this one, the production was so phenomenal, Myles's vocals were super phenomenal, I'm definitely a huge fan of the lyrics, and the chorus was so heavenly. But yeah, this is such a phenomenal song overall and I'm pleased to see this song on this list.
#27. Tate McRae - Exes (#3) [5; Great]
Although I was actually expecting Greedy to make it on this year-end list for the second straight year, but it actually wasn't in there. But at least we have this song ending up on this list which was still pretty good for me. As far as the song goes, it's definitely a phenomenal song and it's actually a step up from Greedy. With my opinion, the production was so phenomenal, Tate's vocals were super phenomenal, the lyrics were super interesting, and the chorus was so heavenly. So yeah, overall it's such a phenomenal song and I'm pleased to see this song in there.
#26. Lady Gaga/Bruno Mars - Die With A Smile (#1, 3 Weeks) [5; Great]
I've noticed that these two artists haven't collaborated since a few months ago even though they've been around since the late 2000's/early 2010's. But she has now made her big return on this year-end list which was actually so amazing. As far as the song goes, it's definitely a phenomenal song. With my opinion on this one, the production was so phenomenal, both Gaga and Bruno sound super phenomenal, I'm definitely a huge fan of the lyrics, and the chorus was so heavenly. I'm pleased to see this song end up in there. It's such a phenomenal song overall for me to listen to.
#25. Ariana Grande - We Can't Be Friends (Wait For Your Love) (#2) [5; Great]
Of course we all know that she played as Galinda in the Wicked movie last month. But this song actually came out before the movie was released. As far as the song goes, it's definitely a phenomenal song. But definitely not as good as Yes, And, but it's still phenomenal. With my opinion, the production was so phenomenal, Ariana's vocals were super phenomenal, the lyrics were super nicely-written, and the chorus was so heavenly. But yeah, overall it's phenomenal and I'm pretty happy to see this song end up in there.
#24. Eminem - Houdini (#5) [5; Great]
We now have the first song on there that appeared in my Top 10 Songs of the year which was super duper amazing. In case you remember, this song landed at #2 on my Top 10 Songs list this year. And what I've noticed about this song is that it actually interpolates three of his own songs (Without Me, My Name Is and Just Lose It) as well as Steve Miller Band's 1982 hit song Abracadabra, which was actually super duper interesting. As far as the song goes, it's definitely an extremely heavenly song and it's definitely the best song that I've ever heard from him. It's definitely a huge step up from Dua Lipa's song of the same title (which I'll get to later) and all of his other songs. With my opinion on this song, the production was super heavenly, Eminem's rapping was extremely heavenly, the lyrics were definitely what I'm a humongous fan of and they're extremely heavenly, and the chorus was extremely heavenly. But yeah, this is absolutely an extremely heavenly song overall and I'm super pleased to see this song end up on this list. It totally deserves it!
#23. Sabrina Carpenter - Please Please Please (#1, 1 Week) [5; Great]
It sure has been one heck of a year for her since she had a lot of #1 songs on the countdown throughout the year and this song was definitely one of them. As far as the song goes, it's definitely a phenomenal song. But definitely not as good as Espresso or Taste, but it's still phenomenal. With my opinion on this one, the production was so phenomenal, Sabrina's vocals were super phenomenal, the lyrics were super interesting, and the chorus was so heavenly. But yeah, this is absolutely a phenomenal song overall for me to listen to and I'm glad to see this song end up in there.
#22. SZA - Saturn (#11) [5; Great]
I actually didn't expect this song to rank this high on there, but it sure has been getting a lot of airplay during it's countdown run in there. And of course she has released the deluxe version of SOS recently, and now we have one of the songs from it that ended up in there. As far as the song goes, it's definitely a phenomenal song and it's actually a step up from Snooze. With my opinion on this song, the production was so phenomenal, SZA's vocals were super phenomenal, the lyrics were definitely what I'm a huge fan of, and the chorus was so heavenly. I'm so pleased to see this song end up in there. It's such a phenomenal song overall for me to listen to.
#21. Benson Boone - Slow It Down (#8) [5; Great]
Of course he was trying to use the same formula he used on Beautiful Things with this song where it starts off slow and then turns into a rock song by the end which was super interesting. As far as the song goes, it's definitely another phenomenal song. But definitely not as good as Beautiful Things by a little bit, but it's still phenomenal. With my opinion, the production was so phenomenal, Benson's vocals were super phenomenal, the lyrics were so nicely-written, and the chorus was so heavenly. But yeah, this is such a phenomenal song overall and it deserves to end up on this list.
#20. Charli XCX - 360 (#11) [5; Great]
This song has also appeared in my Top 10 Songs of the year, landing at #3 on that list. And of course I also didn't expect this song to rank this high on there, but again it has been having lots of airplay during it's countdown run on there so that's why it ended up on this list. As far as the song goes, it's definitely an extremely heavenly song and it's definitely the best song that I've ever heard from her. It's definitely a huge step up from Apple and all of her other songs. With my opinion on this song, the production was super heavenly, Charli's vocals were extremely heavenly, the lyrics were definitely what I'm a humongous fan of, and the chorus was extremely heavenly. But yeah, overall it's such an extremely heavenly song and I'm super pleased to see this song in there. This totally deserves it!
#19. Taylor Swift/Post Malone - Fortnight (#4) [3; Decent]
Yeah this is just a decent song for me. I know it's because she collaborated with an artist that I hate which wasn't really good. But this wasn't a bad song for me but it's still not good. Though the production still sounds amazing and Taylor's vocals still sound phenomenal, but of course Post's vocals were so awful in his contribution. He's just not a good singer in my opinion. Although he does sound a little bit better in his country music, but still not quite as good in it. But the chorus still sounds amazing and the lyrics were still so interesting. But this is decent overall. This would've been a phenomenal song if Post wasn't featured in this song, but oh well. I'm still fine with this song ending up in there.
#18. Chappell Roan - Hot To Go! (#1, 2 Weeks) [5; Great]
She has now made her first ever appearance on this year-end list which I was expecting to happen. She actually went from having Kaleidoscope dropping out of Hit Bound last year to becoming popular this year which was super amazing. As far as the song goes, it's absolutely a heavenly song and it's definitely a step up from Good Luck, Babe and Pink Pony Club. With my opinion on this song, the cheerleader-style pop production was super phenomenal, Chappell's vocals were pretty heavenly, I'm definitely a humongous fan of the lyrics, and the chorus was super heavenly. But yeah, overall it's such a heavenly song and I'm super pleased to see this song end up in there. This totally deserves it!
#17. Djo - End Of Beginning (#5) [5; Great]
I've been hearing this song a lot on Alt Nation. And of course he also made his first ever appearance on this year-end list which was super amazing. And here's a fun fact about him. His real name is actually Joe Keery, who was an actor on Stranger Things which I think is super interesting. It actually feels so awesome to have a Stranger Things actor making his first ever appearance on this year-end list. As far as the song goes, it's definitely an amazing song. With my opinion, the production was so amazing, Djo's vocals were super amazing, the lyrics were so interesting, and the chorus was so phenomenal. So yeah, this is such an amazing song overall and I'm glad to see this song in there.
#16. Sabrina Carpenter - Taste (#1, 4 Weeks) [5; Great]
I actually expected this song to end up in there because I know Hits 1 really loves her and her music. I know she's been getting so popular on there recently. As far as the song goes, it's definitely another phenomenal song and it's actually a step up from Please Please Please. With my opinion on it, the production was so phenomenal, Sabrina's vocals were super incredible, the lyrics were super nicely-written, and the chorus was so heavenly. But yeah, it's such a heavenly song overall and it really deserves to be on this list.
#15. Noah Kahan - Stick Season (#6) [5; Great]
I remember I was getting sick of this song before it left the countdown. And now, the song has grown back on me. And of course I've also been hearing this song on Alt Nation. As far as the song goes, it's definitely an outstanding song and it's actually a step up from Dial Drunk. With my opinion, the production was so outstanding, Noah's vocals were super outstanding, the lyrics were so interesting, and the chorus was so amazing. So yeah, this is such an outstanding song overall and I'm glad to see this song end up in there.
#14. Dua Lipa - Illusion (#3) [5; Great]
This is absolutely another phenomenal song and it's actually a step up from Training Season. Although I wasn't that happy to see Training Season not end up in there even though it hit the Top 3 on the countdown this year, but that's still alright for me. But anyway, let's get to my opinion on this song. The production was so phenomenal, Dua's vocals were super incredible, the lyrics were so marvelous and nicely-written, and the chorus was so heavenly. But yeah, this is such a phenomenal song overall and I'm pleased to see this song end up in there. It really deserves it!
#13. Knox - Not The 1975 (#2) [5; Great]
I actually found the title so interesting because I know this is not The 1975, it's a Dayton based singer who has now made his first ever appearance on this year-end list which was actually an amazing thing for me. As far as the song goes, it's absolutely a phenomenal song. With my opinion on it, the production was so phenomenal, Knox's vocals were super phenomenal, the lyrics were super interesting, and the chorus was so heavenly and I really stand for it. So yeah, overall it's such a phenomenal song and I'm so pleased to see this song rank this high on there.
#12. Taylor Swift - I Can Do It With A Broken Heart (#5) [5; Great]
This was actually one of the best songs that I've ever heard off of The Tortured Poets Department which was actually an exciting thing for me. As far as the song goes, it's absolutely a heavenly song and it's definitely a huge step up from Fortnight. With my opinion, the production was super phenomenal, Taylor's vocals were so heavenly, the lyrics were definitely what I'm a huge fan of, and the chorus was super heavenly. So yeah, overall it's such a heavenly song and I'm super pleased to see this song end up in there and ranking this high. This really deserves it!
#11. Teddy Swims - The Door (#3) [5; Great]
This is absolutely a phenomenal song and it's actually a step up from Lose Control. Though I was actually expecting Lose Control to end up on this list, but it actually didn't which is unfortunate. But at least he has a song that made it on this list, and that was this one. With my opinion, the production was so phenomenal, Teddy's vocals were super phenomenal, I'm definitely a huge fan of the lyrics, and the chorus was so heavenly. But yeah, this is absolutely a phenomenal song overall and I'm so pleased to see this song rank this high on there.
#10. Dasha - Austin (#6) [5; Great]
This is one of those songs that has been doing so well on both pop and country radio charts throughout the year which was so interesting. And of course I've been hearing this song a lot on The Highway this year and I know this it has hit the top spot on The Highway Hot 30 before. As far as the song goes, it's definitely a phenomenal song. With my opinion on this song, the production was so phenomenal, Dasha's vocals were super phenomenal, the lyrics were so interesting, and the chorus was so heavenly and I really stand for it. So yeah, this is such a fun country-pop song overall and I'm pleased to see it rank in the Top 10 on this list. It really deserves it!
#9. Sabrina Carpenter - Feather (#1, 4 Weeks) [5; Great]
Here we go again with more of her music on there. And I've noticed that it dropped out of Hit Bound 8 months before it entered the countdown last year which was super interesting. As far as the song goes, it's definitely another phenomenal song. With my opinion on this one, the production was so phenomenal, Sabrina's vocals were super phenomenal, the lyrics were so interesting, and the chorus was so heavenly. But yeah, this is such another phenomenal song overall and it really deserves to end up ranking in the Top 10 on there.
#8. Shaboozey - A Bar Song (Tipsy) (#1, 3 Weeks) [5; Great]
This is another song that has been doing super duper well on both pop and country radio charts and it was actually one of the biggest country and pop songs ever as it spent 19 weeks at the top spot on the Hot 100, tying Old Town Road for the most weeks spent in there which was super duper amazing. And what I've noticed about this song is that it actually samples J-Kwon's 2004 single Tipsy, which was a super interesting fact about it. As far as the song goes, it's definitely a phenomenal song. With my opinion on this song, the production was so phenomenal, Shaboozey's vocals were super phenomenal, the lyrics were definitely what I'm a huge fan of, and the chorus was so heavenly and super fun. But yeah, this is such a phenomenal and fun song overall and I'm so pleased to see this song rank this high on there.
#7. Dua Lipa - Houdini (#1, 8 Weeks) [5; Great]
One thing I've noticed about this song is that it was actually produced by Kevin Parker and Tame Impala, which I think is super interesting. As far as the song goes, it's definitely a phenomenal song. But definitely not as good as Eminem's song of the same title (which I've already reviewed), but it's still phenomenal. With my opinion, the production was so phenomenal, Dua's vocals were super phenomenal, the lyrics were so interesting, and the chorus was so heavenly. So yeah, this is absolutely a phenomenal song overall and I'm pleased to see this song rank this high on there.
#6. Hozier - Too Sweet (#1, 6 Weeks) [5; Great]
This was also in my Top 10 Songs of the year, landing at #9 on there. And of course I've also been hearing this song a lot on Alt Nation. It has been doing super well on the Alt-18 throughout the year which was actually super amazing. As far as the song goes, it's definitely a heavenly song and it's definitely the best song that I've ever heard from him. It's definitely a huge step up from Take Me To Church and all of his other songs. With my opinion on this song, the production was so heavenly, Hozier's vocals were super heavenly, the lyrics were definitely what I'm a humongous fan of, and the chorus was extremely heavenly. So yeah, this is such a heavenly song overall and I'm so pleased to see this song rank this high on there.
#5. Billie Eilish - Birds Of A Feather (#1, 3 Weeks) [3; Decent]
Yeah this is just another decent song for me. You know she still has that childish voice ever since the start of her music career back in 2018, and I don't really love it. Although the only song that I really love from her and sounded the best was When The Party's Over from 2019, and that song ended up in my Top 10 Songs of the year back then even though she does sound childish in the song but I think she sounded the best in it. But now, let's get to this song. The production still sounds super amazing, but Billie's vocals still don't sound good here and she still has that childish voice. But the chorus was decent and the lyrics are still what I'm a huge fan of, so I'm definitely still giving credit to that. But this is a decent song overall and I'm fine with this song ranking in the Top 5 on there.
#4. Post Malone/Morgan Wallen - I Had Some Help (#1, 3 Weeks) [3; Decent]
He now has his first ever country song that ended up in there this week. But I actually like when he's trying out a new genre instead of that crappy hip-hop music just like what Blackbear did when he went from hip-hop to rock. I actually gave this song a listen on The Highway to see if he would sound better in country music, although it did work out a little bit, but still not quite there yet. And of course I know this song did so well on The Highway Hot 30 this year which I'm actually okay with because I know this is another big country-pop song from this year. Now, let's get to my opinion. The production was actually so amazing, but Post's vocals still don't sound good here but they're not awful like in his other pop songs. But Morgan's vocals were actually super amazing in his contribution and the chorus was still so phenomenal and the lyrics were still very nicely-written, so I'll still give credit to that. But this is decent overall and I'm fine with this song ranking this high on there.
#3. Chappell Roan - Good Luck, Babe! (#1, 2 Weeks) [5; Great]
I was actually shocked that this song ranked higher than Hot To Go because I know it had a longer countdown run than it. And I know this is her first big hit in her career with music which was actually so amazing. As far as the song goes, it's definitely a phenomenal song. With my opinion on this song, the production was so phenomenal, Chappell's vocals were super phenomenal, the lyrics were definitely what I'm a huge fan of, and the chorus was so heavenly. So yeah, this is such a phenomenal song overall and I'm pleased to see this song rank in the Top 3 on there. It really deserves it!
#2. Benson Boone - Beautiful Things (#1, 2 Weeks) [5; Great]
This is absolutely a phenomenal song and it's definitely the best song that I've ever heard from him so far. It's definitely a step up from Slow It Down and all of his other songs. And just like in Slow It Down, the song starts off slow and then turns into a rock song at the end. I really wish he could make more songs that uses the same formula as this one. It'll be amazing if he does. With my opinion on this song, the production was so phenomenal, Benson's vocals were super phenomenal, I'm definitely a huge fan of the lyrics, and the chorus was so heavenly and I really love his screaming in it. So yeah, it's such a phenomenal song overall and this really deserves to rank in the Top 3 on this list.
#1. Sabrina Carpenter - Espresso (#1, 6 Weeks) [5; Great]
Here it is. The biggest song of 2024 on Hits 1. And of course this song was also in my Top 10 Songs of the year, ranking at #8 on there. It's actually pretty amazing to have a song in my Top 10 Songs of the year end up being the biggest song of the year on there. Out of all the 4 songs she had on there this year, this one has got to be the biggest one. As far as the song goes, it's definitely a heavenly song. With my opinion on this song, the production was so heavenly, Sabrina's vocals were super heavenly, the lyrics were super duper nicely-written and they're definitely what I'm a humongous fan of, and the chorus was extremely heavenly. But yeah, overall it's such a heavenly song and this totally deserves to be the top song of the year. I'm super pleased to see that. Have a year Sabrina, you really deserve this song being the biggest song of the year on there!
And there you have it. Those were my opinions and thoughts on every song on this year-end list. And now, I'm going to do my Top 30 Review to see how Hits 1 did with music throughout the year. Now, I usually do a Top 30 Review at the end of every weekend countdown post. And this time, I'm going to be doing it again to see how Hits 1 did this year with music.
